What
does Cypress Hill, Fleetwood Mac, Snoop Dogg,
Marilyn Manson, the San Fernando Valley heat and a
freezing cottage in Cork have in common?
ECHOGRAM_
...the
Irish 4-piece, have gone to extremes recently...
The
story of their debut album began at Cypress Hill’s
Temple Studios, what was once the legendary
Cornerstone Studios, with Snoop Dogg’s crew
hollering their approval from the control roomand
ends back in rural Ireland in the cottage / studio
(Sound House) owned by producer Ciaran O’Shea (ex–Cyclefly).
From the blistering heat of ‘the Valley’ in Los
Angeles to the coldest winter Ireland has
experienced in 50 years, the finished album tracks
were sent over to Sean Beavan (Marilyn Manson, NIN,
No Doubt) to mix at his Hollywood Hills studio
while Marilyn Manson’s contorted portrait of
Sean’s dog presided over the process.
This
trans–Atlantic journey created an album with a
very international feel. The ECHOGRAM sound has
been described as both ‘rock with a digital sheen’
and ‘dark pop music’; big guitars, big drums and
soaring vocals across a backdrop of electronica.
Fans
include Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Robert
Smith, Alan Moulder (U2, Depeche Mode), Adrian
Bushby (Foo Fighters, Band of Skulls, Muse) and
James Brown (NIN, Jane’s Addiction) to name a few.
Between
2007 and the present, ECHOGRAM have had extensive
airplay making them one of the most played
unsigned acts on Irish radio. TodayFM, Cork’s
RedFM and 96fm have all played the band regularily,
while Dublin’s Phantom FM (equivalent to Xfm)
featured the band in their Top 10 for 8 weeks.
ECHOGRAM have also become a regular staple of 2fm,
having taken part in the first 2fm 2moro 2our.
Last November saw the band make headway on UK
airwaves with debut single ‘Walk In The Sun’,
through solid airplay on BBC regional stations and
London’s Xfm.
The
film and TV world is discovering the ECHOGRAM
sound; with songs featured on the MySpace online
drama ‘FREAK’, and a recent licensing deal with
the MTV and E! Networks to include tracks on their
TV shows.
As a
live act, ECHOGRAM are one of the most exciting,
energy fraught outfits in the country. Lead singer
and songwriter Kilian Pettit has already proved
himself a very charismatic frontman, capable of
commanding an audience anywhere they play. They
made their debut LA appearance at the Viper Room
in late 2009 to rave reviews, so returned the
following year. Also in 2009, Kilian was
interviewed and performed an acoustic session for
Fox All Access TV with a follow up on the band
last year.
The
remainder of 2011 won’t see a slow-down in
activity; ‘Walk In The Sun REMIXED’, was released
18th July, and features remixes by Ghostcopy,
garage/dubstep artist Real, Ireland’s Bantum and
Kurtis Mantronik – the “godfather of funk house”.
The band return to London on 28th September,
playing alongside LA buzz band Scarlet Grey at The
Water Rats. The band then head back to the US in
October in support of their next single
‘Conspiracy’, for which the video is already
getting a great response. In November they will
head to the UK for a number of shows up and down
the country, before returning to Ireland for shows
in Dublin and Cork.
Plans
are being made for the release of their debut
album some time in Spring 2012. ECHOGRAM are
lining themselves up to be THE Irish success
