BIO:
Kai Brown is a multi-talented musician whose sound
showcases a mix of familiar influences. Innovative and
original, Brown delivers a performance that is reminiscent
of the consummate hardworking road band – think Tom Petty,
Liam Gallagher (Oasis) or Neil Finn (Crowded House).
Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Brown spent his
teenage years and early 20s forming and refining his
songwriting and musical ability. He fronted several
well-known local bands, including the successful Tommy
Flowers, and played shows across Australia for more than
five years.
In 2004, Brown made the life-altering choice to give up
everything he had in Australia and take a chance with his
music by relocating to the U.S. “Playing music in the U.S.
is not only a lifelong dream and goal of mine,” said
Brown. “It’s my life. It’s what I live to do.” Believing
strongly in his music and its direction, Brown prepared
himself for what became one of the most significant risks
of his life.
With very little in his pockets and a guitar in his hand,
Brown temporarily relocated to Dallas, TX in early 2004 to
work on his debut solo album with producer/songwriter Cary
Pierce (Guster, Vertical Horizon, Evan & Jaron, Jack
Ingram). He had stumbled across Pierce’s production work
after hearing rising singer Graham Colton’s music on the
Internet. Brown immediately knew that Pierce’s production
skills and style were a match for his album and the
direction he wanted to take his music. Over the next
several months, Brown tirelessly poured his heart and soul
into his debut album, striving to create songs that would
draw a solid, emotional connection with listeners.
As Brown worked with Pierce and found his footing in the
studio, he was joined by members of platinum selling bands
Vertical Horizon and The BoDeans. “It was such an honor to
learn from and work with these truly accomplished
musicians,” noted Brown. “Just to have these guys come in
and appreciate the music…it was an immeasurable
contribution.”
Brown completed work on his first solo album in July 2004
and permanently settled in San Diego, CA where he
immediately started making a name for himself as a
resident musician at Martini Ranch. “Just having finished
the album…it feels like part of my dream has already come
true,” said Brown. “I am thrilled to have this opportunity
– to be able to share my life, my struggles, my hopes –
with everyone through my music.”
Brown’s debut album, BETTER NOW, features 10 original
tracks showcasing his sense of authenticity with a style
that’s rich with truth and reality. “The songs have
sincerity,” said Brown. “Every song on the album has grown
out of an emotionally charged experience. The past few
years have been a ride full of the things that make up
life – love, loss and friendship. All of the uncertainties
of the last five years of touring and pursuing my dream
have manifested themselves in this record.”
Brown’s songs bring a raw, yet recognizable feel to
listeners, as people can undoubtedly relate to the
feelings experienced in what he sings about. Brown brings
something rare, an emotional credibility that will connect
with people of all ages.
With BETTER NOW, Brown is giving audiences a preview of
his genuine rock sound with a national tour that kicked
off in April. This album announces with certainty the
arrival of a sincere and familiar artist whose cross-over
into the U.S. market promises to bring an honest,
authentic and timeless sound.
